For those who are unfamiliar with this historic figure, Sir Walter Watson Hughes is considered to be the reason Adelaide University exists, due to his donation of £20,000 to £30,000 to start the institution. Indeed, he is also considered to be a saviour of the State of South Australia with his (or his shepherd’s) discovery of copper and the development of Copper Mines at Wallaroo Mines and Moonta Mines. Their respective towns of Kadina, Wallaroo and Moonta are now referred to as the Copper Triangle. These mines were at one time the richest copper mines in the world.
